Current reads

I started PDK's "A Scanner Darkly" over. It reads like Burroughs writing science fiction. I've also started 2 new comics, David Mack's "Kabuki: The Alchemy" which is, apparently, the rebirth of an epic tale of this female kabuki warrior. Honestly, I bought it for the art, which is breathtaking, but it is turning out so far to be an interesting story. The second one it Sam Keith's new book, Ojo, which like The Maxx describes the turmoil of a pre-pubescent girl within the context of a monster story. The characters are very strong, but I'm not seeing the awe-inspiring art I've seen from Keith in the past. I'll keep trying it for a while, though, hoping that his genious will emerge. I don't usually buy monthly comics, preferring to have whole collecitons in hardback or softcover, but this time I thought I would avoid waiting for ALL the issues to come out AND for the collection to be published, so I would just get them as they were released. Also, that way, if I decided after an issue or two that they sucked, I wouldn't be out $25, just $4 or $8.
